The free school meal system has changed. Under the old system, if your circumstances changed you did not lose your free school meal as it was protected. These temporary protections have now ended.

From September, every family must meet the new criteria based on their current circumstances to continue to receive a free school meal.

These are the eligible benefits:

• Universal Credit
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Guarantee element of Pension Credit.
